Turn in at the straightaway

Eating out

I forgot one very important thing about potatoes in my last post: you can sweeten ’em too. No, you can’t really, but you can buy yourself some nice sweet potatoes and boil ’em, fry’em, bake ’em, mash ’em, gratinate ’em … Or, you could just go to Straightaway Café outside of Black Mountain, North Carolina and have a nice, juicy burger with some real sweet sweet potato fries.

Straightaway Café is one of those burger shacks (and I say shack in a positive way) I absolutely love in the US; it’s out in the country and you have to go on a long, winding, serpentine road to get to it. You feel like you’re driving forever, it’s nothing there but hills.

They have a traditional menu, but I’ve never bothered trying anything else but the burger since it’s so freaking good. The staff is friendly, they have a beautiful porch and there is live music on the weekends. In short, it’s the perfect destination for a roadtrip. So if you ever find yourself on the straightaway outside The Straightaway, turn in straight away.
